1 ^bBe gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the greatness of ^cYour compassion ^dblot out my transgressions.
2 ^eWash me thoroughly from my iniquity
And ^fcleanse me from my sin.
3 For ^{▼▼ Or I myself know}I ^hknow my transgressions,
And my sin is ever before me.
4 ⁱAgainst You, You only, I have sinned
And done what is ^jevil in Your sight,
So that ^kYou ^{▼▼ Or may be in the right}are justified ^{▼▼ Many mss read in Your words}when You speak
And ^{▼▼ Lit pure}blameless when You judge.

5 Behold, I was ^obrought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
6 Behold, You desire ^ptruth in the ^{▼▼ Or inward parts}innermost being,
And in the hidden part You will ^rmake me know wisdom.
7 ^{▼▼ Or May You purify...that I may be clean}Purify me ^twith hyssop, and I shall be clean;
^{▼▼ Or May You wash}Wash me, and I shall be ^vwhiter than snow.
8 ^{▼▼ Or May You make}Make me to hear ^xjoy and gladness,
Let the ^ybones which You have broken rejoice.
9 ^zHide Your face from my sins
And blot out all my iniquities.

11 ^afDo not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your ^agHoly Spirit from me.

13 Then I will ^ajteach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners will ^{▼▼ Or turn back}be ^alconverted to You.

14 Deliver me from ^ambloodguiltiness, O God, ^anthe God of my salvation;
Then my ^aotongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord, ^{▼▼ Or may You open
,} ^aqopen my lips,
That my mouth may ^ardeclare Your praise.
16 For You ^asdo not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a ^atbroken spirit;
A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

18 ^auBy Your favor do good to Zion;

,} ^awBuild the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You will delight in ^{▼▼ Or sacrifices of righteousness

In ^azburnt offering and whole burnt offering;
